AppLyfe, a new mobile application launched in Budapest, offers households a way to manage their inventories and shopping in real time. The freemium service synchronises across family members, alerting them when supplies are low or food is nearing its expiration date.

Across Europe, people spend on average almost two hours a day on housework, with women taking on significantly more, 2.3 hours compared with 1.6 hours for men in households with children. In Hungary, each person produces about 62kg of food waste annually, of which 26kg could be avoided, according to the National Food Chain Safety Office.

AppLyfe’s features include shared shopping lists, expiry alerts, and cross-device notifications for all family members. By flagging items days before they expire, the app aims to cut unnecessary food waste and save households thousands of forints each month.

When daily tasks, shopping and family chores no longer overwhelm us, we have more energy for what really matters: shared moments. AppLyfe creates order in the invisible household work, taking away the mental load so families can focus on life itself

Initially available in Hungarian, the application will soon roll out multilingual versions as the team looks to European markets. Future updates will include recipe recommendations and potential retail partnerships.

The app positions itself as part of a wider movement tackling “cognitive housework”, the planning and remembering that goes unseen but weighs heavily on mental wellbeing, particularly among women.
