POCO F7 Pro review: The $500 phone that makes flagships nervous

In a smartphone market dominated by $1,000-plus flagships, POCO is back in 2025 with the F7 Pro, a device that promises top-tier specs at half the price. On paper, it’s stacked: Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a 144Hz AMOLED display, and blistering-fast 120W charging. But does it hold up once you step outside the spec sheet?

Design and display

The F7 Pro doesn’t look like a budget contender. It comes wrapped in glass on both sides, framed by slim bezels, with a camera module that feels more refined than flashy. Available in Obsidian Black, Electric Blue, and a bold Special Edition Red, the finish leans premium without losing POCO’s signature flair.

The real star is the 6.74-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution (2712×1220 px), 144Hz refresh rate, and a searing 1800-nit peak brightness. Whether gaming, streaming, or doomscrolling under direct sunlight, the screen stays smooth and vivid.

Performance and battery

Inside, POCO didn’t cut corners. The F7 Pro runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, paired with 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512 GB UFS 4.0 storage. Heavy titles like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Mobile ran without frame drops or heat issues during testing—something even pricier rivals sometimes stumble on.

Battery life easily stretches to a day and a half of mixed use. But the real game-changer is charging: POCO’s 120W brick (included in the box, not sold separately) takes the 5,000 mAh battery from 0 to 60% in 10 minutes, and a full charge in about 20 minutes.

Cameras

Photography has long been POCO’s weak spot, but the F7 Pro makes a respectable leap. The triple-lens setup includes a 50 MP Sony IMX890 main sensor with OIS, plus an 8 MP ultra-wide and a token 2 MP macro.

Shots in daylight are crisp, with accurate color rendering. The night mode is serviceable, and stabilization pays off in video. The ultra-wide and macro lag behind, but the main sensor delivers above-average results for the price bracket.

Software

The phone ships with Android 14, skinned with MIUI for POCO. While there’s some preinstalled bloatware, most can be uninstalled. Features like Game Turbo and Second Space (separating work from personal profiles) add practical value without slowing things down.

The Verdict

The POCO F7 Pro isn’t perfect—there’s no wireless charging, the ultra-wide and macro cameras are underwhelming, and the software still needs trimming. But with flagship-level performance, a stunning 144Hz AMOLED, and the fastest charging in its class, it’s arguably the best bang-for-buck phone of 2025 so far.

Strengths

  • Gorgeous 144Hz AMOLED display
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance
  • 120W ultra-fast charging
  • Excellent price-to-value ratio

Weaknesses

  • Weak ultra-wide and macro cameras
  • Some bloatware in MIUI
  • No wireless charging
